High school football preview: Hilton Head Island High School

The turnaround was sharp; the differences were drastic.

The doubt, though, still lingers.

"We still have probably about 50 percent of the folks think last year was a fluke," coach Tim Singleton said last week with evident thoughts of proving them wrong -- just like the previous year.

The Hilton Head Island High School football team ended seasons of futility in dramatic fashion last fall, going 9-3 and advancing to the second round of the Class 3-A playoffs after winning only one game during its final two years in Class 4-A. Where previous Seahawk squads toiled in the misery of weekly poundings from larger, stronger teams, last season's bunch strung together win after win and brewed success not seen at Community Stadium this decade.

But are the feel-good days here to stay?

With returning starters cementing some roles and other areas gaping with holes, that's a hard question to answer.

Web site takes mystery out of college dating

When a male college student wanders into Best Buy and a digital camera catches his eye, he doesn't buy it on the spot. Yes, it's shiny and sexy, but what's the battery life like? Does it suit his needs?

Thanks to the Internet, he can go home, get on his laptop and read blogs about the product.

So when this same student is out at a party or simply on the town, why shouldn't he have the same luxury when he meets a girl he likes?

As cold as it sounds, for college students, this is exactly what happens. And the online mate-shopping aid usually is the Facebook Web site (www.facebook.com).

"It really does suck the fun out of dating. I try not to (look), but people do it all the time," said Alex Smith, a sophomore at Hampton-Sydney College in Virginia.

Firm ‘working on’ Nokia battery issue

THE largest retailer and after-sales service provider of Nokia mobile phones in Qatar, Consolidated Gulf Company, is working with Nokia MEA (Middle East and Africa) to resolve the issue concerning a worldwide recall of a specific type of battery.
A policy to replace all affected batteries is being charted out in Dubai, where the regional headquarters is situated, and we will soon be able to resolve the matter amicably, said Syed Ayaz, CGCs deputy manager, marketing and planning.
Some 46mn Nokia-branded BL-5C batteries manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co Ltd of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006 could be faulty. The affected batteries could potentially experience overheating initiated by a short-circuit while charging. About 100 incidents worldwide have occurred so far.
